Tennis Club Celebrates 60 Years
It is over 60 years since the first ball was struck at the village Tennis Club. Much help and support in the early years was given by Thomas Marshall's and along with hardworking stalwarts throughout the years, the club has moved forward to its present state.
Most of the players are local, within the Bradfield Parish, from young children to senior citizens. A wide variety of activities is on offer each week, including social play, practice sessions, matches, tournaments and coaching, which is open to both members and non-members. Gone are the days when tennis was just a summer sport owing to all-weather surfaces, modern racquets and floodlights.
The two major developments over the last few years have been in the setting up of a junior development programme and the installation of floodlights which is integral to the programme. Over 80 children attend coaching sessions each week in line with LTA policy, and as a result of such a programme the club was given assistance by the LTA to install floodlights on both courts which increases the playing time during the autumn and winter evenings.
What an attractive setting we have for playing tennis here in the village of Bradfield.
